O&R Public Affairs is seeking to hire a Specialist (Graphic/Web Designer) to join its Corporate Communications team. The candidate must have a Bachelor's degree, preferably in fine arts, communications, graphic design, computer technology or related field, with a minimum of 2 years of related business experience; OR an Associate’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of related business experience; OR a high school diploma, preferably with appropriate certification(s) in Web Administration, and 5 years of related business experience in graphic print and interactive design in a design studio or corporate environment. All candidates will present a portfolio that demonstrates a creative and dynamic approach to design, and must have an expert command of current print and Web design software. Must have strong design and creative skills, the ability to generate new ideas and concepts, and a strong command of formats, typography, graphics and layout. Technical expertise in Adobe Creative Suite programs (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Excel, Dreamweaver and HTML 5 web production; vector graphic illustration skills and experience in producing infographics. Demonstrated ability and experience to design and create charts and tables in Adobe Illustrator and Excel; photography retouching and manipulation; and exhibition design skills, including mounting and framing of art work. Knowledge and experience in the following are a plus: Flash, SharePoint and SharePoint Designer, and design and production of applications.
Must possess excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills. Must be well organized and detail oriented. Must be flexible to handle multiple assignments under tight deadlines and adapt to changing priorities. Must have the ability to effectively interact and coordinate with users in multiple departments, external Company clients, support staff, consultants, vendors, technical support personnel, and various levels of management and also have the ability to work independently. Project management, scheduling and presentation skills preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability and willingness to travel in the O&R and CECONY service territories as required.
Under the general direction of the Section Manager, perform corporate communications activities to promote awareness and understanding of Company policies, programs and procedures, and other matters, by external audiences. Execute departmental projects to help the Company meet its communications goals and its mandated informational requirements.
Ensures implementation of Company safety, health and environmental programs for employees whose work is directed. Ensures that safe work practices are followed and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations. Create brochures, ads, posters, invitations, announcements, conference materials, press kits, signage, displays, logos, infographic illustrations, icons, charts, graphs, maps, tables, e-blasts, e-newsletters, banner ads, exhibition design and Web pages for both internal and external Company websites. Design and layout weekly internal employee communications newsletter and provide graphics for related messages posted on Company-wide eBoard screens. Apply general rules and high standards for design and typography consistent with policies that guide the use of the Company’s identity. Identify and properly consider cost, time/schedule and other production parameters, and execute the most appropriate graphic design/solution to meet the needs of internal client departments.
Plan and implement strategic programs to help meet department and Company goals. As required, work directly with senior management on production of sensitive and confidential corporate presentations. Participate in Corporate Communications responsibilities during storm events and other Company emergencies and, when required, assume storm function duties carried out by the Webmaster for both the Internet and Intranet sites. Perform other related assignments and produce and develop special communications projects as required by immediate supervisor or other higher authority. Must be available 24/7, and available to be on call and/or participate in off-hour emergency response activities as required. Participate in the Company’s emergency management processes and storm plans as required. Perform other related assignments as required.
