INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN II
Traffic Operations option (8008)
DESCRIPTION: This is the journey level of technical support work installing, repairing, maintaining, programming and modifying devices and equipment associated with intelligent transportation systems (ITS), traffic control systems. Employees may be assigned an area or district within the State for which they serve as the point-of-contact for this work. Employees at this level do not supervise other employees. Employees in the Traffic Operations Unit install, maintain, and program devices and equipment such as, but not limited to, dynamic message and electronic signs, weigh stations, speed detection sensors, pavement imbedded sensors, paging and public address systems, noxious gas analyzers, telemetry /fiber-optic signal systems and other electrical or electronic components. The eligible list produced from the ITS Technician II recruitment may be utilized for future openings for the ITS Tech II-Traffic within MDOT.
Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Two years of experience in installing, troubleshooting and maintaining computerized traffic and transportation control devices and equipment.
1. Candidates for the ITS Technician II (Traffic) class may substitute 15 semester credits from an accredited college or university in any combination of the following courses: microprocessor and microcomputer theory; digital circuit applications; transducer activated control circuits; advanced timing/ sequential relays; or communications electronics for one year of the required general experience in the repair of microprocessor based digital electronic systems.
Licenses, Registrations and Certificates:
1. Employees in these classifications are assigned duties that require operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties must possess a Class C motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland, and may be required to possess a Commercial Driver's License valid in the State of Maryland.
2. When applicable, employees in the ITS II classification must have satisfied the Administration's training and
certification program requirement for that unit.
