Description

Key Role:

Perform duties related to project management, program integration, administration, clinical, education, and research as they relate to patient safety. Direct the establishment and operation of the Military Health System PSP at the MTF level, work closely with MTF leadership to promote a culture of safety throughout the MTF, and identify, recommend, and aid in the implementation of process improvements leading to the formulation of policies to affect safer care. Make recommendations for organizational changes leading to safer patient care delivery, remain informed about national patient safety initiatives and the impact on the Air Force Patient Safety Program, and administer and manage day-to-day PS program operations encompassing all aspects of inpatient, ambulatory care, and support functions. Collaborate closely with the Chief of the Medical Staff (SGH), performance improvement (PI), quality management (QM), and risk management (RM) offices. Conduct proactive risk assessments and assess risk for patient harm by using existing healthcare processes designed to identify patient and staff risk, including staff surveys, patient surveys, performance measurement, such as pharmacy and therapeutic monitoring, actual event and near miss reporting, infection control practices, peer reviews, medical record documentation, medical record availability, biomedical equipment maintenance, facility management processes, security, hazardous material management, lessons learned from closed medical malpractice claims, and other processes. Manage PS event reporting to identify systems and process issues that could have or did result in patient harm, learn from these events, and implement actions to decrease the likelihood of the event occurring in the future.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
-5+ years of experience with healthcare
-2+ years of experience with Microsoft Access, Excel, Visual Basic, and SQL, including relational databases and visual report design tools
-1+ years of experience with performing RCA, proactive risk assessment, or performance improvement
-Experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis
-Ability to organize time, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and pay close attention to detail
-Ability to speak publicly, participate in multi-disciplinary committees and work groups, conduct workshops, orientations, and education programs for medical and non-medical personnel, prepare performance reports and project status presentations, develop operating guidance, and brief management
-Ability to obtain a security clearance
-HS diploma or GED required

Additional Qualifications:
-Knowledge of the methods that the MTF needs to use so that the PSPMs are in compliance with the accreditation standards of The Joint Commission (TJC) and Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) standards and scoring guidelines desired
-Possession of excellent interpersonal skills
-Possession of excellent oral and written communications skills
-BA or BS degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or equivalent clinical health care degree
