Typesafe is looking for someone to join the team to manage and administer systems and provide basic desktop support The System Administrator / Desktop Support Specialist is responsible for ensuring a high degree of availability of company networks and systems infrastructure by using best practices for architecture and design of these systems as well as being responsible for coordinating and providing desktop, printer, telecom, and basic server support. This role will work within a global team to maintain, periodically review, and improve designs to maximize performance as well as improve redundancy and maximize uptime of all enterprise and development systems. Additional responsibilities include successfully implementing new technology infrastructure, and maintaining documentation of all new technology as well as creating documentation for undocumented legacy systems. The successful candidate will play an essential role in managing a global computing infrastructure.

Responsibilities: • Configures and upgrades servers, operating systems, applications, and special purpose machines for both corporate and product development needs • Optimizes existing environments based on business needs • Implements application software as required • Performs system patching, data storage, and server resource management • Develops, implements, and documents system administration procedures • Administers company data centers and remote office locations • Provides improvements on system reliability, system monitoring, and overall system security • Evaluates and recommends purchases of server and network hardware, software, and services • Researches and integrates new technologies to automate data center functions such as environmental event monitoring, storage management, backup and restore processes, change control, and security • Troubleshoots Linux, Windows Server, OS X, DNS, WANS, LAN, SSL, LDAP, AD, networks, hosted email, web, and other server and user problems • Performs thorough troubleshooting in a timely fashion and provides top-quality user support • Provide expert desk-side and remote technical support to users with technical problems and information technology issues involving applications and hardware (desktop/laptop, network, productivity applications, business applications, and telephony services) • Perform desktop support duties including troubleshooting hardware and software issues • Monitor helpdesk queues, supporting incident requests accurately and in a timely manner • Image and deploy new end-user hardware • Perform basic server maintenance tasks, such as system backups, performance monitoring, and basic troubleshooting • Perform basic network troubleshooting • Provide on-call emergency support • Support mobile devices and connectivity to corporate services • Other tasks and special projects as required and assigned by manager Expertise " Skills: • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or 3+ years of related work experience) • Experience in hardware provisioning, installation, configuration, maintenance, support, and troubleshooting • Strong understanding of application protocols (DNS, SSH, HTTPS, SS, TP, etc.) and their behaviors across LAN/WAN environments • Knowledge of various operating systems, applications, or programming languages in use which include: Scala, Java, Linux, Solaris, Windows, VMware vSphere software platforms; Ubuntu and Debian is a plus • Experience with enterprise monitoring using solutions like Nagios, Cacti, Munin, etc. • Experience with various backup strategies and methodologies • Ability to analyze complex problems and recommend/negotiate solutions • VoIP phone system administration experience • Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software problems, providing quick and effective solutions to resolve issues • Able to prioritize and perform a variety of concurrent tasks with minimal direction or supervision • Strong work ethic and a team-player • Strong verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal skills
