Job Summary

Qualified individual will lead large and/or complex design projects, for both case good and upholstery, from concept generation to final implementation. Responsible for managing the new product development process / timeline involving cross functional teams in order to maintain design integrity. This includes ideation sessions, concept development, mood boards, consumer alignment, design research, product concept drawings, select product materials, physical modeling and product presentations. This role is ultimately responsible for creating innovative and competitive products for the brand through a high level of strategic thinking and keen sense of current and emerging trends within the industry.

Essential Functions of Job
  • Demonstrates solid working knowledge of both, wood and upholstery design and production
  • Identify unmet consumer needs and potential product ideas to meet those needs
  • Ensure new products developed meet the overall portfolio strategy
  • Works with Merchandising to insure product costing and pricing are aligned with targets
  • Notify supply chain of materials needed
  • Responsible for achieving budget objectives for Design and New Product Development Dept.
  • Work with cross functional departments to develop samples
  • Develops and provides presentation of product for product review meetings; rework as necessary
  • Ensure plant execution of design (for both product samples as well as final production/commercialization) for domestic and international facilities
  • Complete final specs for product
  • Determine intellectual property needs and engage Legal Dept. as appropriate for trademark and patent protection
  • Schedule and attend meetings as required for new product
  • Review pilot production runs/quality approval
  • Address quality issues and take appropriate course of action
  • Finalize manufacturing plan with SC
  • Financial analysis: awareness of sales tracking, vitality for new products
  • Issue new product information to corporate training department and company stores (as needed)
  • Train key personnel on new products, interact with retailers on new product intros
  • Work with Director of Visual Presentation to determine optimal company store design/layout

Education and Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree in Product Design, Fine Art or equivalent
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in Design, Product Development
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Pro –E and Alias studio or equivalent
  • Thorough knowledge of furniture construction
  • Proven leadership abilities with building strong relationships within a team
  • Creative skill set coupled with excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Awareness of visual culture including product design, interior design, fashion, architecture and art history
  • Domestic and International travel required – 15%
