The primary purpose of the RA II position is to provide technical support for laboratory-based research in a highly multi-disciplinary team conducting research involving bench techniques, laboratory animal work, scientific writing, and data analysis.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under direction of the Principal Investigator and senior laboratory scientists this position is created to assist senior laboratory scientists with projects and may include the following:
Bench chemistry, microbiology, molecular biology or other scientific techniques including PCR and gel electrophoresis
Mammalian tissue culture and gene expression analysis using siRNAs and shRNAs
Microscope work and image analysis
Writing protocols and procedures
Collection of tissue, blood or other biological specimens
Collection, recording, compiling and analyzing data
Participating in the development or establishment of new laboratory procedures, including biological assays, quantitative and qualitative analyses.
Operating a variety of laboratory equipment.
Effectively utilizing computer systems, including office applications, and statistical or technical software.
Performing other duties as assigned.
BA/BS with 2-5 years experience or Masters with no experience
Two to five years of directly related research experience required.
Working knowledge of genetics and cell biology and at least one year of tissue culture experience. Two years experience in a research laboratory minimum.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Standard laboratory environment; some assignments may be in hospital units with typical hospital environmental hazards and concerns.
