The Asset Management Operations and Administration (O&A) Business Operations and Planning Team provides program management, business analysis, data analysis, and reporting services to internal Asset Management clients and business partners. A critical function within the team is the Program Management Office (PMO) that provides strategic leadership and/or critical support to a variety of key initiatives across multiple business units within Fidelity’s Asset Management division. Headquartered in the US, the BOP PMO currently has program managers in Boston, MA, Merrimack, NH, and Westlake, TX.
The Vice President/Program Manager is primarily responsible for leading (or playing a critical role) in the strategic development and implementation of one or more specific cross-advisor initiatives for Fidelity’s Asset Management division. These activities may involve multi-year, and multi-million dollar projects with virtual teams in various regional locations, and will have significant exposure to senior management within various business units. The successful candidate will be capable of supporting multiple initiatives across all focus areas and be a team player who thrives in a fast-paced work environment, and potentially manage a team of project managers and business analysts. Responsibilities include strategy development, implementation, planning & oversight as well as reporting and escalation.
Provide traditional program management services for key strategic initiatives. This includes overseeing the development and rollout of large cross business unit initiatives, defining and driving program plans, designing program governance, defining and adhering to project timelines, managing project within prescribed budget parameters, producing clear, concise tracking reports, and monitoring ongoing program deliverables.
Work with business unit subject matter experts to define the scope of each program; document client needs; identify interdependencies; design framework for delivering project objectives.
Work closely with technology partners to ensure business requirements and client needs are adequately represented in systems designs
Help project teams and managers identify risks and escalate concerns to senior management; recommend solutions and alternatives as issues arise; provide issue resolution management by working with Business Units, HR, Finance, project team and other stakeholders as needed.
Provide periodic project updates to Steering Committee; clearly document recent program accomplishments, issues, concerns, upcoming milestones, and decisions required; ensure consistency and transparency in reporting.
Contribute ideas and expertise into the continual design and improvement of the overall PMO capability; help to identify and leverage best practices across PMO initiatives.
Actively work with business resources, technical resources, architecture, and leadership to identify and mitigate risks related to timeline, cost, and component delivery expectations.
Ensure that project deliverables are high quality and align with Project Management Office standards; work with project team members and peers to ensure that the project is following appropriate methodology and implementation approach.
Mentor business analysts assigned to support the PMO, and in particular, any specific key initiative the VP may be leading; potential for managing small staff.
Successfully deliver initiatives on time, on budget, and with full scope; ensure appropriate operating model, processes, and procedures are in place for the program to function on a go-forward basis.
Education and Experience
10+ years of experience, preferably including some experience at a large, established consulting firm and/or an established asset manager
Deep understanding of the asset management industry as well as knowledge of Fidelity's Asset Management businesses preferred
Demonstrated ability to apply business strategy tools and processes effectively in the corporate context
Experience working across multiple organizations in a matrixed environment, comfortable managing up and influencing a broad range of stakeholders.
Flexibility and the skill to both lead and contribute to teams are a must
MBA degree or equivalent is preferred; Bachelors degree required.
Skills and Knowledge
Experienced individual with a proven ability to develop and implement successful program initiatives within the Asset Management industry
Demonstrated program, project, and team management experience, specifically including strategy development, systems implementation, and business transformation
Ability to understand complex business problems and develop practical solutions
High leadership potential and a high degree of comfort with ambiguity
Excellent communications skills, with specific strengths in communicating with senior leadership
Ability to carry out administrative management responsibilities such as weekly status meetings, weekly status reports and financial updates. Strong attention to detail as well as effective time management abilities
Experience working across organizations to bring disparate (virtual) teams together
Familiarity with Fidelity Agile Methodology (FAM) or Six Sigma; strong software skills required
