Iowa State University invites applications for an Assistant Director of Federal Relations to assist in advancing the university's federal advocacy priorities with respect to federally sponsored research, higher education policy, agriculture policy, health policy and other relevant policy areas. The Assistant Director will also be responsible for coordinating the university's communications efforts with the Iowa Congressional Delegation as well as with all relevant federal agencies. This position reports to the Associate Vice President/Chief of Staff within the Office of the President and is based in Ames, Iowa.
In addition, the Assistant Director will be responsible for promoting the university's appropriations priorities at the federal level. This position will also track a wide variety of legislative issues, and connect daily federal policy developments to the university's overarching goals of academic and research excellence.
The successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter and enthusiastic team player, possessing strong communications skills, both oral and written. The ability to multi-task, quickly grasp details and make sound decisions will also be essential for success in this position.
Bachelor's degree and 5 years related experience OR Master's degree and 3 years related experience OR Ph.D. or other doctoral/professional program and some related experience.
Demonstrated experience in, and knowledge of, public higher education and federal legislative process.
Minimum $56,196; commensurate with qualifications
The duties of this position will require regular travel to Washington, DC.
