1. JOB PURPOSE
Assist supervisor in training subordinates and less experienced workers. Relieves or acts on behalf of supervisor during his or her absence. Performs preventative and routine maintenance of custodial equipment, polaris, golf carts and vehicles. Under general supervision performs routine institutional custodial duties with skilled custodians. Receives training to comply with the rules and guidelines of OSHA and the Risk Management and safety and environmental health and safety Office of Clemson University.
2. JOB FUNCTIONS
Repairs and performs preventative maintenance on custodial equipment including but is not limited to manual and motorized equipment, vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaners, pressure washers, billy goats, service carts, chemical storage racks, laundry carts, hand trucks, paper and soap dispensers, window cleaners, window blinds, towel racks, light covers/switches, and all other non-motorized equipment. Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs on vehicles, golf carts and Polaris vehicles E/20%
Replaces smoke detector batteries, blinds, fluorescent and incandescent light bulbs in assigned areas. Pressure wash outside areas including buildings, sidewalks and windows. Washes window and door glass; washes and dust venetian blinds.Assists with initial security check of building upon arrival and recognizes and reports hazardous materials and chemicals. E/15%

Maintains floors by waxing, buffing, and dry and wet stripping, utilizing the buffer machine, wet/dry vacuum, carpet shampooing and roto washer daily. Extracts water from floors and carpet areas using carpet wet/dry vacuums and/or carpet shampooer/extractor machines. E/10%
Cleans restrooms and replenishes supplies of paper towels, sanitary napkins, soap and tissue. E/5%
Uses chelting agent instead of cleaner disinfectant periodically for soap scum problems.
Cleans halls, offices, function rooms and lounges. Collects and removes trash from buildings.
Sweeps, vacuums and cleans halls, stairways, entrances and walkways. E/5%
Responds to emergency weekend and/or snow plan callbacks when necessary. Performs all other housekeeping duties and custodial equipment repairs as requested by supervisor. E/5%
A high school diploma and custodial or groundskeeping experience directly related to the area of employment.
A valid driver's license and good driving record.
PREFERRED IN ADDITION TO THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Possess knowledge of departmental policies and procedures. Must have a working knowledge of all equipment, materials and chemicals used in custodial services. Ability to communicate effectively. High School diploma and 2 years experience in building custodial work.
PAY & WORK SCHEDULE:
Standard Hrs: 40; Band: 03 ($ 21,063.00 - $ 38,975.00)
Hours are from 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM M-F
Rotating weekends once every five to six weeks.
Must be dedicated to a "teamwork" approach to the Housing Department. Proper assignment of task and follow-through are extremely important.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of bloodborne pathogens standards and material safety data sheets. Ability to carry out all duties assigned in a timely and skillful manner.
Incumbent is expected to work with minimal supervision and must use good managerial judgment on the job.
