Reporting to the Director of Development, the Assistant/Associate Director will assist the Director of Development in carrying out the designated duties and responsibilities for the development program. This highly motivated professional will be involved with the planning and implementation of the fundraising efforts in support of current operations, endowment, and other capital purposes from all private sources. She/He will fulfill the duties under the direction of, and in close cooperation with, the Director of Development and the university's central development office.
Bachelor's degree and experience or master's degree required. Must demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to articulate the importance of higher education, and understand and articulate the critical role and priorities of the university and the development program. The successful candidate will show evidence of the ability to motivate volunteers and donors, will be self-motivated, and will embrace the concept and attitude of teamwork in a complex organization.
A successful track record in major gift fundraising preferred. Preference given to candidates with one or more years of experience in higher education fundraising, university administration, legal/financial planning, or other related experience. Preference for previous experience representing Virginia Tech to external audiences. Preference for previous experience representing a higher education institution to external audiences. Preference for proven success in building productive, long-term relationships with senior administrators, key business leaders, faculty, staff, institutional boards, volunteers, and/or donors. Preference for successful experience in cold calling.
