Director – Hospice is an executive management position responsible for the general supervision of the Hospice Department’s clinical and business operations. Ensures that safe, high-quality hospice care programs are provided by the Hospice Department staff. Serves key liaison role with the Hospice Medical Director. Facilitates communication between caregivers and family. Assures compliance with legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements and agency policies. Develops and implements nursing objectives, policies, and procedures in conjunction with nursing management. Ensures that staffing schedules meet client needs. Provides for hiring, orientation, training, coaching, development, and evaluation of staff. Coordinates patient care by all service disciplines in all care settings. Functions as a liaison between all disciplines. Provides guidance and education regarding current and new standards, policies and procedures. Ensures that systems are in place to provide appropriate and timely documentation and services that comply with pay source and regulatory agency requirements. Assures that a designated RN has responsibility for coordinating clinical care and in observing the services performed. Acts as a resource and role model to staff and to community; provides direction and education of Hospice objectives and philosophy. Works in cooperation with internal and external customers to create and implement viable and efficient customer-satisfying relationships. Identifies needs and coordinates education of staff to implement best communications process. Builds strong relationships with referral sources and other community organizations appropriate for development of the Hospice programs. Develops and improves all business processes and procedures for the department subject to review of CEO and fully documents the details of all such processes and procedures.
Graduation from an educational program with a bachelor’s degree, preferably in the health care field. Master’s Degree in health care, business administration, or related field preferred. Active Colorado RN license or a license from the state of primary residence, if participating in the NLC (Nurse Licensure Compact). Minimum of two years significant management experience. Experience in management of home healthcare or hospice preferred. Knowledge of Hospice home health regulations. Knowledge of Medicare reimbursement as it relates to Hospice services. Knowledge of Medicare reimbursement as it relates to Hospice services. Daily activity is 70-80% sitting and 20-30% walking or standing. Occasional stooping, bending, reaching and twisting. Office equipment includes telephone, computer and copier on a daily basis
