The Ted and Karyn Hume Center for National Security and Technology, and the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech, are seeking applicants for postdoctoral associate positions to support a growing body of research programs in wireless communications. The successful applicant will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: -Software/cognitive radio, and its application to dynamic spectrum access and spectrum sharing; -Radar technologies, with an understanding of the impact radar has co-spectral communications systems, and vice versa; -Advanced electronic warfare, to include jamming and counter-jamming strategies for next-generation communications technologies such as OFDM and MIMO; and -Satellite communications, to include novel approaches to robust satellite communications links in a challenging electro-magnetic environment. -Background in optimization theory, coding theory, and very strong in developing software simulations Candidates should have research interests relevant to national security, and these positions report to the Director of Research for the Ted and Karyn Hume Center for National Security and Technology. Specific responsibilities include the following: -Support university research programs by conducting basic and applied research, authoring technical documents and presentations, and publishing peer-reviewed papers; -Develop new funded research programs by participating in proposal teams and supporting the business development activities of the Hume Center; and -Supervise graduate students working on research programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • An earned PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related discipline; -Demonstrated excellence in research and scholarship, or evidence of high potential for such excellence; and -Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team in developing and managing projects. -Background in optimization theory, coding theory, and very strong in developing software simulations

  • Demonstrated creativity, independence and high motivation -Good communication skills. -Strong work habits and the ability to work independently as well as with a research group -Evidence of good project management and laboratory management skills -Evidence of developing publications based on individual research -Ability to work under limited supervision -Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel in the organization
