FirstBank has an opening for a Mortgage Underwriter who will be responsible for the underwriting of residential mortgage loans, ensuring compliance with appropriate company and secondary market investor standards. Specific responsibilities include: Utilizing automated underwriting systems to assist in making credit decisions Communicating decisions to branch officers Working with branch officers and Mortgage Operations staff to secure all required documentation Examining loan documents for accuracy and completeness Working with senior underwriters/officers on loan exceptions as well as loan decisions that are outside of your delegated authority Restructuring of non-qualifying credits Developing counter offers
Additional responsibilities: Analyze financial statements and tax returns for portfolio loans Evaluate and submit private mortgage insurance requests Prepare responses to quality control audits
Required skills: Strong analytical skills Strong oral and written communication skills Excellent problem-solving skills Ability to review complex financial documents and assess an individual's creditworthiness while adhering to all regulatory and compliance requirements Ability to make credit recommendations Ability to meet production, quality and service standards in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, while practicing sound lending judgment Excellent interpersonal skills and service orientation are a must
Background/Education Requirements: Bachelor's of Business Administration or commensurate with experience Previous underwriting or mortgage processing experience
This position requires S.A.F.E. Act registration through the Nationwide Licensing System (NMLS) at the time of employment.
