Provides clinical supervision to students in a controlled hospital and/or laboratory, supervision to students in a college setting. May direct work of students.

Essential Functions

35% - Supervises, instructs, and evaluates students in a hospital and/or college lab; plans and conducts student conferences; demonstrates nursing skills and procedures; performs clinical instructions, and demonstrations; observes return demonstration from students; coordinates work with nurses and Education Department when using hospital, nursing homes or other clinical settings; assists in tutoring students to prepare for tests; monitors testing and students progress; plans and reviews assignments and observe skills and procedures; maintains a current library of nursing periodicals and books
35% - Supervises the operation of audio-visual films, materials, and equipment; prepares clinical/lab equipment for demonstrations and lectures
30% - Orders necessary supplies and equipment; performs related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree
  • Experience providing direct patient care
  • Experience providing work direction to, and evaluating students
  • Experience conducting clinical instruction
  • Must hold an Arizona registered nurse license in good standing or multi-state privilege to practice in Arizona by the first day of employment
  • Must be able to meet health and safety requirements including CPR certification, Fingerprint Clearance card, and drug testing
Desired Qualifications

  • Recent experience as a registered nurse in active clinical practice in medical/surgical nursing, pediatrics, obstetrical, or psychiatric/mental health nursing
  • Knowledge of, and experience with curriculum and teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse student populations
  • Knowledge of, and experience with the use of technology including classroom applications and/or distance learning
  • Knowledge of, and experience conducting clinical simulations including use of equipment and software
  • Knowledge of, and experience with lab budget, recordkeeping, space utilization, scheduling, ordering and maintaining supplies and equipment
  • Effective written communication skills
Special Working Conditions

Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens and other infectious diseases; may be required to instruct at multiple sites and/or teach days, evenings and weekends. Assignment may extend past the normal academic semesters; may require lifting objects weighing up to 40 lbs; RN licence required; CPR certification required; completed Hepatitis B Immunization series; annual update of blood borne pathogens. May be required to stand and walk for extended periods of times. Required to have possession of a valid Level I DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card. Required to have a "Pass" status on a MCCCD supplemental background check based on the standards of MCCCD's clinical experience partners that have established the most stringent requirements.
