The Marine Project Engineer’s routine responsibilities will be to assist in the design and construction of marine equipment and facilities; assist in budget development and coordination (towboat overhauls/dry dockings and barge USCG (United States Coast Guard) major inspections). They will provide engineering calculations, technical solutions, and professional guidance for structural and naval architect-related issues. The engineer should have a working knowledge of barge pump and engine design, specification, operation and repair. The individual must be able to develop a good working relationship with third-party companies and USCG representatives.
This position will be responsible for adhering to current USCG and EPA regulations related to the inland waterways and will monitor proposed changes in both regulations and industry best practices. The successful applicant will develop a high proficiency in all facets of disciplined project management.
The engineer will support ongoing and future Marine Operations, Maintenance and Logistics as a Marine Engineering subject matter expert. The engineer will assist in the evaluation of new business opportunities and optimization of operations by preparing economic and engineering studies in a team environment. They will help ensure that construction activities occur in a safe, coordinated and financially-monitored manner to maximize value to the Company.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are critical as are leadership skills. There will be minimal travel associated with the position (5-10%).
B. S. in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Marine Engineering Technology, or Mechanical Engineering required. Three years' minimum experience is preferred.
