FOR THE POSITION OF
The City of Pacifica is establishing an eligibility list for the position of Police Officer. If you are a police officer, a recent POST academy graduate, or one who is currently enrolled in a POST Academy, take this opportunity to explore our dynamic, full-service, community police department. The position performs a variety of professional law enforcement duties which include police patrol, investigation, traffic regulation, and related law enforcement activities. Apply today!! Applicants must have successfully completed a California P.O.S.T. Basic Police Academy within the past three years, or posses a P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate, or currently be enrolled in a P.O.S.T. Basic Police Academy. The beginning salary for POST academy graduates and laterals is $6,189 per month up to a maximum of $7,809 per month. Appointment may be made above the beginning of the range based upon qualifications and experience. There is a career incentive of 5% for service of five (5) years, as well as a salary incentive for those who have passed probation and hold an intermediate or advanced certificate.
- Must be at least 21 year old at date of hire;
- Felony convictions and disqualifying criminal history are not allowed; U.S. citizen;
- Able to read and write the English language;
- Must successfully pass a Police Department background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological examination and medical examination;
- High School graduate or GED. Preference given to those applicants who possess a two-year community college degree.

The ideal candidate will work effectively in a department of 35 sworn officers and 5 non-sworn employees and embrace a community focus. The Department handles over 20,000 calls for service each year. Patrol cars are equipped with video cameras and laptop computers. The department is located on Highway 1 in a state-of-the-art 18,000 sq. ft. facility. The department offers in-house training, county task force assignments and state-of-the-art equipment.
HOLIDAYS : Thirteen (13) days per year.
VACATION: From 11 to 20 days per year, depending on length of service.
SICK LEAVE : Accrual is one day per month, with no limit on accrual. Unused sick leave may be used as service credit towards CalPERS retirement.
RETIREMENT : City contracts with CalPERS to provide a retirement plan utilizing the formula for 2.7% at 57 years of age. Individuals with prioer CalPERS service may be eligible for other retirement formulas.
INSURANCE: The City provides an allowance towards a cafeteria plan to purchase health and welfare benefits (medical expense reimbursement, dependent care).
The City pays 100% toward a dental insurance plan for employee and all eligible dependents.
The City pays premiums for life insurance equal to one time annual salary.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION : The City contributes $14.50 to one of three deferred compensation plans.
SECOND LANGUAGE INCENTIVE: Upon successful completion of proficiency examination, City pays $372 per month in addition to base salary for proficiency in Spanish, Tagalog, and Chinese.
