The Ground based Midcourse Defense (GMD) program requires a launch technician to support Prime Mission Equipment maintenance at Vandenberg Air Force Base, CA.
The position is multi-disciplined specializing in missile and ground support systems. Directs preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, repairs, replacements and calibration of mechanical and electrical components. Prepares and completes work orders, work permits and purchase orders. Maintains equipment maintenance logs to document repairs or replacement of launch support equipment. Performs preventive and corrective maintenance tasks associated with safe handling of aerospace vehicle launch support systems while working to a demanding schedule. Makes recommendations to increase effectiveness and efficiencies to achieve operational schedule and cost parameters. Perform continuous monitoring and operation of Heating Ventilating and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) systems, to control and maintain required system configuration and ensure flawless operation of various control systems in a missile field environment. Conduct regular data acquisition and circuit tests to track system performance, analyze trends, and recognize any anomalies that may affect system integrity. Perform required procedures to correct or mitigate any system alarms, anomalies, or failures.
Assembles, disassembles and/or modifies systems by changing, removing, replacing or upgrading aerospace vehicle components to correct failures or implement changes. Oversees assembly, disassembly or overhaul. Configures aerospace vehicles and bench test equipment. Troubleshoots complex pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical systems to isolate mechanical or electrical faults and repair faulty components. Performs validation/verification testing of systems and components. Documents procedures and established processes to ensure contractual and regulatory compliance (e.g., repairs, test results, applicable modifications and inspection results). Inspects components and verifies repairs for flight worthiness requirements. Oversees training. Works under general direction.
Required to work various shifts and accept responsibility of overtime and after hours support on an on-call basis. Some weekend and holiday work required. Position requires an ability to perform manual labor inside or outside throughout the year. Must be able to ascend and descend vertical work ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift loads of approximately 40 pounds. US Citizen required for this position. Must have valid drivers license. Commercial driver's license, forklift and or lift truck certification helpful. Must be able to attend job-related training/certification, possibly requiring Company-paid travel out of state.

Basic Qualifications For Consideration

This position requires the individual to support work tasks in an operational missile defense complex or at operational interceptor launch facilities where system assets are subject to war fighter deployment. An operational missile field or an operational interceptor facility have significant inherent health and safety risks and individuals are required to train, understand, and observe extensive safety and process controls to help protect persons and equipment.
