Payroll Services Tax Specialist
This position is responsible for processing and supporting the tax payment and filing functions for multiple tax jurisdictions for payroll services clients. In addition, the position is responsible for keeping and maintaining procedures for the processing of tax payments and working jointly with management to ensure payments are processed accurately and by required date.
Processes, verifies and proofs customer payroll tax information adhering to all internal and external policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Performs balancing of tax information, adjustment of taxes, and finalizes all related requirements for an average of 48 states to ensure the proper taxes are withheld and paid accurately while adhering to government deadlines.
Supports payroll staff and customers with tax/payroll related questions, proving, recording, filing and payment of all tax liability. Responds to client phone calls and investigates researches, analyzes and resolves problems working with the appropriate internal resources as needed.
Analyzes, researches and resolves all IRS and State notices. Supports and produces the daily, monthly, quarterly and year-end tax payments and filings by the government deadlines ensuring that accuracy and time frames are met eliminating any interest or tax penalty issues.
Responds via written communication to both the tax agency and the client when resolving an issue.
Develops and maintains expertise in legal and regulatory requirements including changes/updates.
Supports and trains the Payroll Specialists on policy (Bank and regulatory), to ensure that payroll and tax payments calculated from wages are processed correctly. Assists with questions regarding adjustments needed or reversal of wage information. Reviews tax liability status before payroll is released to clients.
High school diploma or equivalency required.
3-5 years relevant experience
Knowledge of tax related concepts, practices and policies. Strong understanding of accounting practices and procedures.
Strong understanding of and experience in payroll processing.
Practical experience reporting and filing Federal and State employer tax returns, as well as proving, filing and reporting for Employer/Employee year-end including w-2s.
Ability to maintain specialized knowledge and skills regarding changing legal and regulatory requirements.
Strong customer service experience with ability to translate/explain technical information clearly and concisely.
Strong written and verbal skills are needed to communicate and collaborate effectively with internal and external contacts.
Excellent time management, analytical, research and problem solving skills.
Ability to multi–task in a fast paced, deadline driven environment. Excellent PC skills, including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, internet and internal software. Ability to learn additional applications as needed.
Accuracy with speed in entering both alpha and numeric information is essential.
