NATURE OF WORK: This is skilled master level work involving the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment at City facilities. An incumbent in this classification will also, when required, take out work permits. Work is usually assigned in general terms, and actual work methods used to complete projects are planned and executed independently.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of electrical laws and theories as they relate to the installation, testing, and repair of electrical service. Knowledge of the standard practices, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment of the electrical trade. Knowledge of the types and capacities and use of electrical wiring, switches, controls, panels, and outlets. Knowledge of City, State, and National Electrical Codes. Knowledge of the correct safety procedures to use when working with electricity. Skill in the use of tools, equipment, and materials used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical service. Ability to read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams, schematics, and plans. Ability to use electrical test equipment and tools of the trade. Ability to diagnose equipment for electrical problems. Ability to understand written or oral instructions. Ability to squat, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand, walk, and lift for eight hours per day or more and to climb, reach, balance, bend, stoop, push, and pull for six hours per day or more. Ability to move objects in excess of one hundred (100) pounds of force 0-33% of the time, objects in excess of fifty (50) pounds 34 to 66% of the time, and objects in excess of twenty (20) pounds 67 to 100% of the time.
