Position Summary:
UNM Medical Group, Inc. (UNMMG) is the practice plan organization for physicians and other medical providers associated with the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. UNM Medical Group, Inc. is a New Mexico Non-Profit Corporation.

The Department of Surgery at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center offers a full range of academic medical programs and is organized into eleven clinical divisions that service multiple facilities. The General Surgery Division is seeking a mid-level practitioner to assist with inpatient and outpatient management of elective General Surgery patients at the University of New Mexico Hospital. The practitioner will participate as a member of the General Surgery team and will assist in all phases of treatment ranging from preoperative evaluation to assisting in the operating room through postoperative care and outpatient follow-up. Adherence to UNMH and departmental policies and procedures required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing with 6 months to 1 year experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

State of New Mexico Certified Nurse Practitioner OR certification pending, as documented by temporary certificate.

Preferred Qualifications:
With surgical patients and assisting in providing pre-op and post-op care: writing appropriate orders, including those for narcotics, stimulants, and depressant drugs
Performing emergency life saving procedures in cases such as cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, massive hemorrhage, or similar emergencies
Working as a team member with medical/nursing staff to provide comprehensive care and promote continuity of care
Communicating effectively with attending physician, physician on call, house physician on call, or supervising physician regarding any unusual or unexpected events or problems requiring direct physician consultation
Writing progress notes on patient charts indicating patient status and treatment precedures performed; maintain other records as required
