PURPOSE OF CLASS:
At the UCHC, this class works collaboratively in an inter-disciplinary manner to provide patient care in a health care specialty. This position is located on the Storrs campus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Considerable knowledge of theory, principles and practices of advanced nursing and therapeutic models in area of specialty; knowledge of pharmacology as it relates to advanced nursing practice; knowledge of different disciplines and disease states; counseling skills; considerable interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; skill in performing specialty specific invasive procedures; ability to effectively assess physical and psychosocial conditions; ability to work

independently; ability to work under pressure; ability to formulate appropriate treatment plans; decision making ability; ability to lead others and to work cooperatively in a team environment.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Certified Advanced Practice Nurse.
Incumbents in this class may be exposed to communicable and infectious diseases.
Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain a valid license to practice Advance Nursing in the State of Connecticut. Incumbents may also have certification as an advanced practice nurse in Orthopaedic Surgery.
Experience working with Orthopaedic patients as a Nurse Practitioner (preferably in a clinic setting) identified at time of recruitment. Additionally may have worked as an RN in the specialty.
Incumbents may work in multiple locations and need to travel to those sites (Farmington, Southington, Avon and Storrs and other potentially develop)
Works administratively under the general supervision of an employee of higher grade and under clinical collaboration with physician.
May lead/supervise lower level employees as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Provides preventive and acute care in area of specialty: assesses and diagnoses patient condition and develops and implements treatment plan; administers treatments, performs physical examinations including pre-operative and post operative follow ups as well at times researches medical histories; orders laboratory and diagnostic test and interprets results, prescribes, administers and dispenses medications and other treatments; maintains patient health information records; coordinates and triages treatment and makes appropriate referrals to other health care providers as necessary and monitors patient’s outcomes; maintains safety, infection control and quality of care standards; participates as a member of an interdisciplinary team; assists in the development of policies/procedures; participates in or designs changes in the system of care delivery; participate in clinical research and services in various program areas through teaching and education; acts as a clinical consultant/resource to peers and other health care professionals within or outside the institution; performs related duties as required.
SCHEDULE: Working hours may be eight or ten hour shifts depending on the need of the area defined.
FULL TIME MINIMUM ANNUAL SALARY EQUIVALENT: $86,681
