Communications Director The Communications Director assures that all internal and external communications support and promote our brand. The director leads the creation and execution of an overall messaging architecture that achieves corporate strategies and the objectives of the business units. This position has direct responsibility for management communications, corporate media relations, crisis communications, business unit communications, employee communications and community relations. The director will interact with all levels within the organization to provide strategic communications counseling and planning, as well as interacting with the community, media and industry organizations. A high level of credibility, expertise and executive presence is expected.

  • Counsels senior management on communications issues
  • Drives the development and execution of a comprehensive, proactive communications strategy for both external and internal constituencies
  • Translates strategies into implementation plans and actively monitors progress
  • Works with outside vendors to create and execute PR plans to achieve business objectives
  • Leads the creation of message maps and supporting proof points for the overall company, the business units and critical constituencies, including employees, customers, media, partners and communities.
  • Plays a hands-on role in the writing, approval and distribution of press releases and other supporting materials, as well as outreach to members of the media.
  • Prepares spokespeople for interviews and serves as corporate spokesperson on occasion.
  • Drives the development of an integrated crisis communications process and plan and prepares standard talking points for potential scenarios.
  • Identifies priority media outlets and individual reporters and builds strong relationships to position the company positively.
  • Manages outside vendor to obtain product placements in movies, television shows and events.
  • Manages celebrity relationships for PR purposes
  • Establishes and manages relationships with celebrities, chefs and other influencers who can provide publicity and exposure for Vitamix
  • Works with community organizations to positively position Vitamix in the local community.
  • Works closely with Vitamix Foundation Executive Director to communicate mission, grants and other activities
  • Works closely with product management and marketing strategy team on new product releases and other news opportunities.
  • Monitors the media and takes action to protect the reputation of the company.
  • Supports internal company events
  • Together with the Internal Communications Manager, partners with Chief Human Resources Officer to create a compelling internal communication roadmap and editorial calendar
  • Creates compelling videos for internal and external use that support the brand and company mission.
  • Creates the vision for our intranet, currently a sharepoint site, and works with Internal Communications Manager to drive editorial calendar.
  • Establishes metrics for performance measurement, including impressions and ROI where possible.
  • Manages the Communications team members and develops them for continued growth.

Skills & Abilities Education: Bachelor's Degree preferably in journalism or communications
Experience: 10 years related experience
Computer Skills: Microsoft Office
Other Requirements: Ability to communicate communications strategies and plans in both written and verbal presentations. Ability to utilize monitoring tools, such as Radian6.
