DUTIES: Back to top • The primary purpose of this position is to provide appropriate, specialized developmental care and instruction for children in the Child Development Center.

•Provides developmentally appropriate care and education for children. Performs basic oversight for a designated classroom and/or for groups of children.

•Guides a staff of Child Development Program Assistants with responsibility for the operation and program activity of several classrooms in accordance with applicable regulations.

•In coordination with the training and curriculum specialists, uses own initiative to design and implement a variety of plans to stimulate and sustain the interest of special children, and to contribute to their social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development.

•Provides clerical and administrative support for the operation of child development program. Opens and closes the Center as required. Works to identify and satisfy customer's needs.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Back to top SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-04) or equivalent. Specialized experience must include providing developmentally appropriate care and education for children.

Federal Time-In-Grade

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of early childhood development, childhood education and/or training procedures, and personnel rules and regulations.

2. Knowledge of AF and NAEYC/NSACA child developmental policies, regulations, procedures and processes.

3. Knowledge of program policies relating to family day care and/or child development. As well as knowledge of safety and occupational health requirements pertinent to child care

4. Skills to design and implement a variety of activities to enhance children’s development and develop creative and innovative activities for children.

5. Ability to maintain good working relations, plan and organize work, interpret a curriculum plan and follow written instructions, and communicate orally and in writing.

6. Ability to contribute to social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development of children. As well as, promote and foster effective working relationships with children.

7. Ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, and procedures, provide guidance to other employees and provide guidance to customers.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE : Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

ARE YOU USING YOUR EDUCATION TO QUALIFY? You MUST provide transcripts to support your educational claims. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :

1. The employee must satisfactorily complete background checks IAW PL 101-647.

2. The employee may be required to work an uncommon tour of duty.

3. Employee may be required to drive bus or van.

4. Employee must complete CPR additional training requirement.

5. Employee must complete First Aid training requirement.

6. Employee must be able to lift up to 40 lb. with kneeling and bending.

7. Employee must pass pre-employment physical.

8. Employee must be able to obtain food handler's card.

9. Employee must provide evidence of required immunizations.

10. Employee must complete mandatory DOD Child Development Training within 18 months.

11. Employee must be 18 years old, and hold a high school diploma or equivalent.

12. The employee is required to work in shifts.
