Job Description (Do of the Job)
Hughes has an exciting job opportunity for a Unix Systems Engineer located at our headquarters in Germantown, MD.

Position will be responsible for building, monitoring, and administrating Unix systems. Required Unix versions include Solaris (X86) and Redhat/CentOS. Other desirable Unix flavors include Debian and Ubunto. Candidate must be able to demonstrate strong system administration ability from day one. Position will require on-call support availability.

Qualification/Skills (Know of the Job)
Required Skills:
Bachelors degree in technical field
Candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to install OS from ISO, Jump Start, and Kick Start. Strong understanding of networking principles, subnetting, and the OSI stack are essential.
Strong scripting skills in shell and Perl are required with desirable skills in PHP, Java, Python, Groovy, and Javascript.
Ability to use vi editor, cron configuration, authentication configuration (LDAP/AD/Likewise), NFS, and iptables configuration are also a requirement – nearly all administration will be command line interface only.
Candidate must be good at documenting networks and services using Microsoft office tools including Visio.

Desired skills:
Bind (DNS) configuration, Apache/Tomcat web server installation and configuration, ssh, sudo, sendmail, and SNMP based monitoring tools.
Must have fundamental understanding of Unix systems operating in a physical and Virtual environment using VMWare.
NetApp storage systems experience is a bonus.
