Job Summary:
Assist with coordination of daily registered nurse and certified nurse assistant staff to provide optimum patient care on all nursing units. Refer patient care problems to the appropriate nursing staff member and/or non-nursing problems to the appropriate department head. Monitor registered nurse and certified nurse assistant demographics/profiles in the computer in order to generate daily/monthly reports. Acts as administrative representative at specified times.

Essential Duties:
Maintain staffing ratio’s according to departmental parameters and determine staffing needs based on occupancy rates, census patterns, patient acuity, and budget constraints. Responsible for approving or denying personal leave time and employee changes in compliance with departmental/hospital scheduling policies.

In cooperation with department charge nurses, is responsible for all bed assignments including direct, ER, OR and all transfers. Relays appropriate information to physician and admission staff.

Problem solves and is able to cope with high pressure and stressful situations involved in the handling of patient/family/physician and staff complaints and other related issues.

Must have a high degree of knowledge regarding staffing/scheduling programs and provide house-wide support and instruction on an ongoing basis.

Responsible for projecting hours for all nursing units, computer entry and generation of six-week unit schedules. Monitors absenteeism, floating, personal leave time, overtime, on call and low census hours and reports requested information to the nursing directors or designee and the Vice President of Patient Care Services.

Qualifications

Education:
High school graduate or equivalent (GED).

Experience:
Medical terminology ezperience preferred

Five years of progressively more responsible clerical or related experience, demonstrated word processing, human relations and effective communication skills.

One year experience in a hospital staffing office is preferred.

License/Certification:
Certification/licensure as a certified nurse assistant.

LPN or medical assistant preferred.
