Our Medical Center is located in Providence, RI with outpatient clinics located in Middletown, RI, Hyannis and New Bedford, MA. We provide high quality comprehensive outpatient and inpatient care to Veterans residing in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. This Medical Technologist is located in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service and is not a bargaining unit position.

**Your salary and grade will be determined by the Professional Standards Board (PSB). The PSB is a peer review process. The PSB will review your individual qualifications, education, professional training/internship(s) and professional experience to determine the most appropriate salary and grade based on your individual accomplishments.**

This is a permanent full-time position. The work schedule is: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with rotating Holidays and weekends.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

Must possess a certification as a Medical Technologist/CLS

Must be a Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 1 permanent employee.

Designated and random drug testing may be required

DUTIES:
Assists with the development and maintenance of computer programs/files/systems.

Provides ADP training, technical option training, and limited PC program training pertinent to job function.

Assists in developing, maintaining and developing various computer applications.

Assists in the design/maintenance/update of the available test catalog.

Assists in the design/maintenance/revision of laboratory computer user instructions.

Assists laboratory personnel and laboratory equipment specialist with computer related problems.

Assists in testing new software enhancements and data validation procedures prior to implementation and integration into the facility.

Serves as designated back-up liaison within the medical center and within the VISN for LIM/QM.

Carries out quality assurance and management studies to improve service provided by the laboratory.

Approximately 50% of time is spent performing the duties of a generalist medical technologist.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Basic Requirements:
Certification:
All candidates must currently possess the appropriate certification as a medical technologist or clinical laboratory scientist given by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Registry (ASCP-BOR), the National Credentialing Agency (NCA), American Association of Clinical Chemists (AACC) or American Medical Technologists (AMT), or the American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB).

Required Experience:
GS-10 Requires:
Completion of 1 year of experience at the next lower grade level which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) and other characteristics that are directly related to the duties of the position to be filled, and must fully meet the KSAs at that level. Experience includes: comprehensive knowledge of and skill in applying a wide range of concepts, principles, and methodology of the field to perform advanced techniques; Ability and knowledge to modify or adapt established methods; ability to perform sound independent work.

Preferred Experience:
experience with a Laboratory Information Management and/or Quality Management system; Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite e.g., Word, Excel.
