Main Purpose of Job
The Department of Natural Resources, Fisheries Service, is currently accepting applications for a Research Statistician II position in Annapolis, Maryland. The main purpose of this position is to assist in the development of advanced data analyses and stock assessment of aquatic resources within the Estuarine and Marine Fisheries Division to facilitate the development of effective monitoring programs and scientifically sound management advice. This position provides crucial guidance for both DNR and coast-wide fisheries managers in the formulation of Departmental, Bay-wide and coast-wide fisheries management decisions.
MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Education: Possession of a master’s degree from an accredited university with a minimum of nine semester hours, or the equivalent, of graduate coursework in research methodology, theoretical or applied statistics or measurement theory.
Experience: One year of post-master’s experience in statistical research.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in quantitative fisheries research and stock assessment and strong computer programming and data analysis skills is preferred but not required.
Knowledge of SAS, R, AD Model Builder or other analytical software is desired.
