The Senior PAT Scientist role provides drug substance and drug product PAT (Process Analytical Technology) development and testing support for all late stage drug candidates manufactured at Merck/MSD Operations in Arecibo, Las Piedras and Barceloneta. The role may also expand to include supporting Merck operations in other regions while still based in Puerto Rico. With direction, the Senior PAT Scientist effectively interacts with people and resources in support of high performance organizations to realize GSTC's and Merck's vision. The Senior PAT Scientist performs all activities in compliance with all regulations, policies and procedures relevant to job assignment.

Lead the development and implementation of advanced in-line, on-line, and at-line PAT methods for the assessment of chemical and physical product and process parameters. The scope of the contributions includes methods to support development of design spaces on new products, support of technology transfer as well as methods for control either in-process and real-time release testing (RTRT) applications including new and established products utilizing technologies for process monitoring and control.



Master's or Ph.D. Degree in Chemistry/Pharmacy or Chemical Engineering (Master's Degree with at least 5 years of experience, Ph.D. with at least 1 year of experience; chemistry degree preferred in analytical or physical chemistry).

Must have hands on experience with Process Analytical Technology (PAT).

Experience with any of the following areas; optical spectroscopy (Near-Infrared, Infrared, Raman), multivariate modeling (i.e. chemometrics), on-line analysis, advanced PAT instrumentation.

Experience in a diverse set of projects and skill sets (Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering) due to the multidisciplinary nature of the position.

Strong oral and written communication skills in English & Spanish due to the business-critical role of the position.

Available to travel between Puerto Rico sites.

Experience with multi-disciplinary teamwork with a proven track record.

Experience leading Projects is required.

Strong regulatory requirements knowledge.

Good Customer Service skills.

Availability to support second and third shift when is necessary.
