The Certified First Assist – OR is a person having extensive knowledge, experience, proficiency and certifications in comprehensive, technical surgical skills that provides technical leadership in the care of the perioperative patient. Working under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or Medical Staff member, attends to the patients direct care needs. Acts as a primary preceptor for Surgical Technology Students and Surgical Technologists I, II, and III, and student FA’s in developing needed direct care skills and performs tasks as delegated by the R.N. or Medical Staff member. Works in partnership with a Registered Nurse and a Medical Staff member and although this individual does not assume an independent assignment, can be relied upon to demonstrate excellence in the direct care of the most complex perioperative patients. Supports an organizational culture for Service Excellence and practices the Service Excellence Standards to all customer groups.
