Supplements students' understanding and command of the course material for which the students are seeking assistance outside of class.
Proactively contacts students to discuss a plan of action in order to enhance academic success.
Conducts tutoring for students online (both synchronous and asynchronous) and in-person (one-on-one and small group) for introductory courses.
Generates department reports for tutoring and maintains documentation of department tutoring interactions.
Helps students to develop and apply appropriate learning and study skills.
Maintains a thorough knowledge of the course material, as well as multiple instructional methodologies, to meet various student learning styles.
Attends tutor training sessions as required by the Department Chair or Departmental Tutoring Coordinator.
Bachelor's degree in the subject he/she will tutor (or acceptable related area) with at least some teaching and/or tutoring experience in an educational environment desired.
A GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for the courses to be tutored (or acceptable alternatives) is required.
Additional training and tutor certification attainment may be required after hired.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (both written and oral), dependability and ability to work well with students in an online environment.
Superior knowledge of the subject matter that he/she will tutor.
Sensitivity to students from diverse social and academic backgrounds with varying experience and learning skills.
Ability to learn, become proficient at, and implement software (for both online and face-to-face tutoring) used by the department and/or Columbus State Community College.
Ability to take appropriate initiative and accept responsibility within the job parameters of an LSS.
