PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB: To coordinate and provide direct services to student through individual and group counseling, crisis intervention,
assessment and outreach.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: Develops and supervises a proactive mental health counseling program that will
include outreach, faculty/staff training, support groups and student workshops on mental health issues.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Plans, develops, implements and evaluates mental health outreach programming to enhance the personal/wellness functioning of
university students
  • Provides consultation for faculty/staff on mental health issues
  • Participates in Student Affairs
committees when Director is unavailable
  • Plans, directs and implements the delivery of psychological services for students in
support of student academic success, intake assessment, and crisis intervention
  • Prepares reports of mental health services,
activities, outcome measures, and others as needed
  • Makes appropriate internal and external referrals
  • Follows National
Counseling Best Practices
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as required
  • Must be available for some
weekend/evening hours

QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate Degree in Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology or related field.
Minimum of three (3) years work experience in an administrative position within a college counseling center.

Licensing and
Certifications: LPC, Clinical Psychology or Clinical Psychologist

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Knowledge

of:
  • Mental Health Counseling Principles, practices and techniques
  • Federal, state, and local laws, codes, and
regulations
  • Procedures of record keeping
  • American Counseling Association Code of Ethics
  • Office procedures,
methods and equipment including computers and applicable software and media technology

Skills:
  • Possess excellent oral
and written communication skills
  • Possess interpersonal skills using patience and courtesy
  • Exhibit excellent
organizational skills
  • Develop and implement outreach programs
Abilities to:
  • Provide a range of mental health
counseling services to a diverse population
  • Evaluate, treat and manage acute psychological disorders
  • Maintain accurate
and complete student records
  • Interpret applicable laws and regulations including legal and ethical standards for professional
counselors
  • Establish collaborative relationship with the college community, and local mental health agencies
PHYSICAL

REQUIREMENTS:
1.Ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods
2.Occasional ability to lift, carry, and put away parcels
weighing up to 50 pounds
3.Normal physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place on the job taking distance and speed
into account
4.Normal physical strength to handle routine office materials and tools
5.Normal
endurance
