Educating people of all ages, from all walks of life and from more than 40 nations, Oakton focuses on improving the quality of life for everyone who enters its doors.We offer: Continuing education Great benefits Paid winter break Fridays off during the summer Oakton is seeking an Accounting Assistant for the Des Plaines, IL campus to: Perform accounts receivable functions including distributing invoices, according to specific deadlines, receiving and forwarding payments to the cashier for the Business Institute, medical insurance, chargeback's, private scholarships and other business agreements. Identify delinquent student accounts for assignment to outside collection agencies and review and make collections on accounts to be written off after all collection efforts have been exhausted. Verify all incoming cash, checks and credit card transactions from Banner Student and Banner Finance systems to include Bookstore sales. Record appropriate journal entries. Perform in- depth account analysis to include troubleshooting and correcting errors in posting. Post monthly charges, perform collection activities, process student refunds, and resolve billing disputes. Reconcile student Financial Aid. State and Federal Financial Aid awards and Private scholarships. Ensure quality customer service to students, employees, case workers, and employers by responding and providing information including but not limited to, billing, collection and disbursement request. Resolve student account matters and refer to the appropriate office as necessary. Monitor and review accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness. Summarize and report student collection, payment plan and refund activities. Prepare and coordinate timely student tuition billing and weekly drops. Oversee the tuition waiver process and work with the Cashier's Office as applicable. Provide financial guidance at new student orientation and other registration events. Prepare and maintain bookkeeping records and financial reports for the Oakton Community College Educational Foundation. Maintain current accounting records and logs and prepare reports as requested. Maintain current knowledge of compliance and privacy acts, including but limited to Collections Laws, FERPA, PCI and GLB Act. Assist cashier's office during peak periods and serve as backup for cashiering activities. Qualified candidates must possess an Associate's degree in Accounting, Business, or related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience; two years of accounts receiving and/or accounts payable experience; knowledge of personal computer software - including Microsoft Excel skills; organization and time management skills; interpersonal and communication skills; and ability to lift items weighing up to 10 pounds.This is a full time position that works Monday - Friday, during traditional daytime hours and is compensated $41,613 annually.For further details, visit our website at and select the Employment link.Oakton Community College is an equal opportunity, affirmative action institution, committed to employing competent, qualified individuals.
