The Role:
The Director of Communications for Bloomberg Government will be responsible for enhancing BGOV's image as an innovative product and trusted information source through strategic, external communications. Working closely with the Director of Communications & Public Affairs for Bloomberg L.P., the successful candidate will develop and manage the strategic external communications plans related to media relations, communications, event planning and crisis preparation. This position will also have a close working relationship with marketing and ensure connectivity from a marketing communications perspective.

Responsibilities will include:
-Develop and execute proactive strategies, programs, and tactics to ensure the unique voice of BGOV in the DC marketplace.
-Proactively and positively position the company in the marketplace by providing a key point of differentiation from competitors.
-Oversee the development of a sponsored event series
-Work to promote BGOV analysts and editors as thought leaders on panels, forums and on internal and external media. Such positioning includes promotion of analyst content and speaking opportunities which will influence awareness of company's capabilities.
-Develop and execute strategies to increase company's visibility and enhance its internal and external reputation; and support effective employee recruiting efforts.
-Support the Director of Communications & Public Affairs for Bloomberg L.P. in developing a proactive media relations strategy including building and maintaining relationships with print, electronic and broadcast media in political, business, technology and general news arenas.
-Identify, track and report on reputation risks; raise awareness and understanding of risks among leaders; Measure results making strategic adjustments in messaging and positioning.
-Ensure consistent messaging in all external corporate communications vehicles, leveraging the full array of communication solutions (face-to-face, electronic, print, broadcast, podcasts, etc.).
-Align messages and communication strategies to support external/customer facing businesses/processes.
-Develop, implement and maintain appropriate metrics to evaluate impacts and effectiveness of external communications.
-Develop and implement crisis communication plans; lead crisis/issue management programs for specific events or longer term, coordinating communication with all key stakeholders in a crisis situation.

Qualifications:
-BS/BA or equivalent work experience
-7 years of experience in communications; Capitol Hill experience a plus
-Experience in developing comprehensive communications plans and strategies, managing external relationships, including proactive and reactive media relationships
-Demonstrated attention to detail and organizational skills
-Exceptional written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate value propositions to leaders in the public and private sectors
-Comfortable working in an extremely fast paced environment
-Time management and prioritization skills for scope, resource and schedule management
-Strong personal initiative, good judgment and impeccable ethics; desire to succeed in a demanding, innovative, and entrepreneurial environment
