Job Summary

Department 09329 is seeking a dynamic, highly energetic software application engineer to join the Enterprise Collaboration Services Team (ECS). This team is responsible for delivering highly innovative, collaborative solutions to its customers. This motivated individual will design and construct websites, internet applications and user interfaces including information architecture, graphics, animation and application functionality. Coordinate and collaborate with other members of the ECS team to architect, design and implement high quality, value added solutions for our customers. These solutions will assist Executive, Division, and Center level customers in the management of their mission deliverables. This individual will develop image identity and branding solutions for customers. Flexibility and tolerance is a necessity. The qualified candidate will also develop software applications, create and maintain web-based information platforms, portals, graphics, multimedia, and develop database-driven web interfaces for rapid, real-time information sharing. There may be a certain level of classified work within the SCIF area for a certain audience in the intelligence community and the FIE. This individual must have a sense of aesthetics and understand project goals to produce results that are effective in communicating to a wide range of customers and be able to provide end-user support and perform trouble shooting and issues resolution. Identify new techniques and ensure optimal products that support the organizations and communication strategies and goals.
The successful candidate must become an integral member of the ECS team to create cutting edge solutions as well as identify, analyze, and define with the customer and translate them into technical requirements and creating innovative internet applications and graphical products.

Primary Job Duties

Develops new programs and subprograms, as well as enhancements, modifications, and corrections to existing software.
Works with customers in defining and negotiating requirements.
Documents work and results.
Develops or executes project plans, budgets, and schedules.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Advanced knowledge of techniques and tools that support applications, including software development methodologies, database design methodologies, programming languages, source code control for release management, and disaster recovery methodologies.
Ability to work with multiple hardware and operating systems, including system architectures and network infrastructures.
Ability to keep up with the latest technologies and tools to support Web-based development.
Knowledge and experience in testing methodologies, including the ability to troubleshoot and identify solutions for issues.
Ability to effectively work in a team environment and interact with diverse customers understanding the business domain.
Ability to develop innovative long-term solutions that are easy to use, integrate with other applications, and are straightforward to maintain.
Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through to completion on multiple tasks, often under strict deadlines.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.


-- Requires bachelor's degree in Information Systems or relevant discipline plus entry level experience (up to two years); or master's degree in Information Systems or relevant discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
-- Knowledge of Laboratory publication policies, practices, and procedures, copyright laws, web design and development principles, theories, concepts and techniques.
-- Demonstrated a strong web development, internet applications and high familiarity of modern software development practices.
-- Demonstrated knowledge/experience at the advanced level of the frontend of SharePoint / SP designer 2010, 2007 and backend .Net applications, InfoPath 2010 and Visual Studio as well as Adobe products (Photoshop, illustrator, Flash, CS5) and animation products.
-- May require demonstrated proficiency and innovation in the use of advanced web technologies (e.g., Java Script, CSS, JQuery, ASPX, ASP.NET, AJAX, HTML, Oracle, SharePoint Designer, Visual Studio, Dreamweaver, IIS).
-- Familiarity with streaming media concepts and techniques, including digital video and audio compression standards such as MP4, WAV, and AVI, MPEG.
-- Experience with SharePoint Security Model, Events, Alerts, and Workflows to meet the customer need as well as understanding of current and future technology trends.
-- Continually seek opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and deepen client relations and effectively manage resources within budget and project schedule.
-- May require familiarity with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques, web analytics, web security, web usability, web accessibility, or social media.

-- Ability to work independently as needed, but also functional within a small, agile team.
-- Proficiency with both Mac and PC computing environments.

Security Clearance

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted Q-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance.
