This position is accountable for supporting the technology infrastructure affecting the Calvin College campus. Provides technical knowledge to keep the network (servers, switches etc) operating consistently, efficiently and securely. The position is responsible for systems administration, installation, and maintenance of network equipment and software systems. Primary support on one or more of following systems: VMware Linux, Novell, Windows, MAC, Cisco IOS and others as required.

Conduct required research and provide a technical insight into the computer needs of the college and the state of the computer industry. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Perform systems administration duties by performing regular maintenance (backups/patches), monitoring (system utilization/performance/log review), and troubleshooting tasks aimed at providing reliable and consistent computer services.

Install or develop and maintain a variety of software systems and applications to provide consistent, reliable end-user access to our network. Monitor and maintain a suitable physical environment for centralized computer and networking equipment. Responsible for the ongoing design and maintenance of the campus network, for conducting network troubleshooting, and for implementing changes as needed. Responsible for investigating new technologies and responding to demands for upgraded and improved network services to the campus.

Along with the security officer, maintain network security by watching for and investigating suspicious network activity and responding to network attacks to maintain the integrity and privacy of information on computer systems. Provide team leadership for system implementation projects. This will include researching available solutions, providing cost estimates, establishing implementation schedules and making purchasing recommendations to CIT management. Support the goals and objectives of the Information Technology Department by developing an environment that is maintainable and scalable to contribute to an efficient operation.

Make recommendations for network and system changes with supporting documentation to management to provide a consistent plan for growth and continuity of computer services. Rotating 7x24 On call scheduling
