Job Summary The Comprehensive Studies Program (CSP) in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts at the University of Michigan invites applications for one-term lecturer positions for the Summer 2013 half-term. Successful candidates will teach one of the following writing courses to incoming first year students as part of the 2013 CSP Summer Bridge Program:

WRITING 100 Transition to College Writing
ENGLISH 125 - Writing and Academic Inquiry

The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to teach lower-division English/writing courses; must exhibit a willingness to devote extra time and effort to students outside class via additional office hours for individualized instruction (conferences); must provide students with regular performance feedback, devote some time to teaching critical thinking and writing workshops in the classroom and provide students with weekly in-class and out of class writing assignments.

Applicants for this position are also expected to interact with and provide feedback to CSP Academic Advisors regarding student academic progress (or lack thereof) throughout the term. Teaching qualifications, teaching experience and evidence of outstanding teaching will determine the selection of a candidate.

Required Qualifications* Masters degree and experience teaching undergraduates required.

Desired Qualifications* Ph.D. in English preferred; demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching highly desired.

Additional Information The Comprehensive Studies Program is an academic unit within the College of Literature, Science and the Arts that offers a variety of academic support services including the Summer Bridge Program, academic year course instruction, academic advising and peer advising, tutoring, and freshman interest groups. CSP works closely with a wide variety of academic departments, offices and programs throughout the university, including offices in the various schools and colleges, the Undergraduate Admissions Office, the Office of Financial Aid, and the Division of Student Affairs.


Union Affiliation This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
