The Network Engineer role contributes to REI’

s success by installing, configuring, maintaining and providing primary support for hardware and software on wide area network (WAN) and telecommunications systems, ensuring that delivered systems provide value to customers in terms of quality, usability, and timeliness.
•Installs, configures, tests, and implements new telecommunications or network hardware and updates to network software. Develops and maintains system solutions that maximize information delivery, performance, and availability, following departmental policies and standards.
•Serves as an information resource and internal consultant for the acquisition, installation and support of new systems, appliances or hardware.
•Plans and implements network projects, communicating with and coordinating among vendors, end users and Information Services staff. Works with project team or Information Services group to develop network or telecommunications requirements for projects or changes.
•Prepares documentation for the portion of work assigned.
•Coordinates with Information Services staff for quality assurance testing and scheduling of move to production level.
•Monitors network performance using available software tools; monitors hardware for maximum operating efficiency. Provides technical assistance, troubleshooting and problem resolution for a variety of moderately complex problems for assigned systems.
•Oversees vendors who perform contracted work.
•May act as a mentor for team members.

Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent training and experience.
•2+ years engineering experience or equivalent industry knowledge.
•Experience with Cisco routers, switches, ASA firewalls, IPS, Checkpoint Firewalls, F5 load balancing, and VPN appliances.
•Experience with Network Protocols and Technologies - MPLS, TCP/IP, OSPF, EIGRP, RIP, BGP, HSRP, SNMP, ISDN, DSL, T1, Multiplexed T1, E1, DS3, SONET, frame relay, VPN, Wireless LAN, VLANs, and Ethernet.
•Experience with monitoring/tools - SevOne, NetQoS, and Alterpoint.
•Ability to participate in on-call rotation for 24x7 service requirement.
•Ability in all phases of technical writing for information or infrastructure systems.
•Knowledge of a broad range of related technical categories or in multiple disciplines within a specific technical category.
•Knowledge of network systems design, implementation and support.
