This position will be posted in Victoria, Texas Residence in or around the City of Victoria a plus.
This position will establish and maintain a functional branch of UHPD on the University of Houston Victoria Campus.
Supervises shift personnel including activities, work assignments, development, and evaluation of performance.
Coordinates the Beat Management program, call responses, and investigations of crime scenes.
Disseminates information regarding criminal activity, special assignments and safety or security related events to appropriate departmental staff.
Acts as liaison between the department and the community, providing safety and security information, and initiating and participating in crime prevention presentations.
Identifies and implements efficiencies in department operations and processes.
Prepares and distributes various reports; reviews reports written by subordinates for accuracy; and maintains local supervisory files.
Conducts regular building, uniform and vehicle inspections.
Participates in periodic training as required.
Investigates complaints concerning shift personnel.
Performs Police Officer patrol duties as needed.
Performs other job-related duties are assigned.
Requires specialized training in basic trades, principles, procedures, practice, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level.
Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
Must be a current TCLEOSE certified peace officer.
UHDPS requires all applicants to complete the criminal history fields on their application. Applicants with incomplete criminal history fields will not be considered for a position. Required information includes, but may not be limited to:
- Driver’s license
- Last 4 digits of SSN
- Must be at least 21 years of age and have a clear Texas driver’s license.
- Must have five years of progressively responsible experience in law enforcement and public safety.
- Must have considerable knowledge of State and Federal laws.
- Must possess exceptional leadership and management skills.
- Must have a demonstrated ability to work effectively in complex, decentralized organization.
- Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Must have a proven ability to initiate and maintain productive relationships with internal and external constituencies.
Additional Posting Information
Note: A degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Police Administration or a related field, and experience in higher education law enforcement is a plus.
Additionally, completion of a national or state law enforcement executive/management training program, such as the FBI National Academy, the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas ( LEMIT ) or the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration is desirable.
This position requires the applicant to pass several phases of reviews and tests such as a written exam, an oral review, a thorough background check, etc. Applicants that do not pass the testing phase may re-apply after three months, if there is an open Sergeant.
