Ethicon Endo-Surgery's Global Energy business, a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is recruiting for Project Director, located in the Cincinnati OH headquarters.

Ethicon Endo-Surgery develops and markets advanced medical devices for minimally invasive and open surgical procedures, focusing on procedure-enabling devices for the interventional diagnosis and treatment of conditions in general and bariatric surgery, as well as gastrointestinal health, gynecology and surgical oncology. R&D Project Directors are responsible for leading one or multiple focused, cross-functional team to execute product acquisition or development projects in accordance with criteria specified in performance agreement between the team & the ETHICON ENERGY Global Management Board of Directors. The scope of the team's responsibility encompasses market & business analysis, product design or acquisition, manufacturing process design, manufacturing pilot & product market launch. Meeting contract requirements that include: time to market, cost of goods, development costs, quality standard & market size forecast.


Lead efforts to transition projects from investigations (product concepts & technology) through assessment & recommendations for business opportunities. Lead cross-functional development team in executing project objectives according to a written, approved performance agreement. Work with partner groups to gain alignment & support to achieve project objectives Perform work as assigned by team in best interest of project success. Ensure projects are executed in compliance with regulatory requirements (GMP, ISO, MDD) & ETHICON ENERGY policy & procedure requirements. Transfer product & manufacturing processes from development team to operations & marketing organizations at completion of project. Capture & disseminate knowledge acquired during projects to improve ETHICON ENERGY product development processes & systems. Provide constructive feedback & coaching to team members & support personnel to assist in skills development. Participate as a senior manager to improve environment & business systems of ETHICON ENERGY. Ensure that domestic & global market strategy, assumptions, business opportunities are measured & periodically reviewed throughout duration of project execution & initial product launch. Lead cross-functional team in executing product development performance agreement. Develop comprehensive project plans. Establish & assign roles & responsibilities. Provide direct communication to management on progress, opportunities & issues. Obtain resources from functional organizations, support groups & outside sources to ensure project success. Continuously re-evaluate project to determine validity of concept assumptions.

Foster teamwork within team & between team & other groups. Provide career development guidance to direct reports . Provide individual performance appraisals & compensation adjustment recommendations to management. Participate in interview process for open department positions. Supervise direct reports. Domestic & international travel, as required

A Bachelor's of Science in mechanical, electrical, biomedical engineering or related technical field with a minimum of 10 years experience in product development is required. An advanced technical degree or an MBA desirable. Proven record of accomplishment: direct association with or leading efforts to develop technically complex products from concept to market is required. Experience in the medical device industry is required along with a minimum of 2+ years experience in managing self-directed work teams and developing people within an organization.

PMP is considered a plus for this position.

Ability to influence senior management, partners is required. Able to work effectively within & lead a cross functional team is required. Customer relations experience is required.

Working knowledge of general design engineering principles is required for this position.

Marketing technical products is an asset. Knowledge of manufacturing processes & systems is required. Patent process, terminology and IP experience is required.

In-depth knowledge in one or more technical fields (materials, medical, mechanical, ultrasonic, electrical) Quality, statistical process controls, design of experiments, statistics, standards and an understanding of risk analysis is preferred. High ethics that reflect Credo values is preferred. Problem solving techniques (e.g., K TA, FAULT Tree Analysis, etc.) is preferred. Prior J&J experience is considered an asset for this position.

Knowledge & understanding of medical regulations & their impact on the business, ISO, & GMP is required along with Oral, written, & presentation communications skills. Project management principles is required. Knowledge of medical & surgical terminology & anatomy is an asset. Information analysis and Judgment, decision making is important in this role along with the ability to adapt rapidly shifting priorities and the ability to handle rapid pace environment. Financial control, budgeting, risk analysis, complex problem analysis & resolution and the ability to take initiative & be self managing are requirements for this position.

Word processing, spreadsheet, project planning software, electronic mail is required. CAD / CAM system capabilities is preferred

General understanding of advanced computer analysis programs is preferred along with the ability to Internet search e.g., literature, patents, current events.
