The Associate Vice President (AVP) of Human Resources provides sound, creative and innovative strategic leadership for the planning and implementation of quality-based integrated human resources programs for all administrators, faculty, staff and student employees of the University. As a trusted advisor, the AVP provides guidance to the President's Cabinet on a broad range of operational, functional and strategic initiatives. Reporting to the VP/CFO of Administration & Finance, the AVP oversees a comprehensive HR program and provides visionary leadership regarding talent acquisition and retention, classification and compensation, labor and employee relations, performance management and engagement, human resources information systems, payroll, benefits and retirement services administration, employee wellness and assistance and professional development and training. The AVP ensures the delivery of high quality, value added services in each of these areas to meet the dynamic needs of the University. The AVP will modernize and continually improve human resources management systems; leveraging technology to enhance the customer experience. The AVP administers an operations budget of $2.5 million with a staff of 50 including 7 administrators.

Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in HR management, public administration, or related discipline. At least seven years of progressive HR experience demonstrating excellent interpersonal, technical and organizational skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of management, faculty, staff and students; provide collaborative support to a variety of organizational units in a wide range of HR specializations; ability to lead and mentor others. Possess a customer service centered, solution driven management style that effectively engages all aspects of the organization.

In addition to exceptional technical skills and management abilities, the University seeks a critical thinker, a proven leader who is able to see the big picture and implement programs and initiatives that align with the University's mission and one who understands, embraces, promotes and celebrates diversity.

Preferred qualifications include experience leading the implementation of information resources and/or payroll systems; modernizing employment and compensation practices. Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and experience of higher education personnel policies, procedures and laws in a multicultural environment; experience in collective bargaining environments; and an advanced degree in a field related to the position. Advanced degree strongly preferred.
