Welding Engineer - Plant Vogtle Units 3&4 (Waynesboro, GA)
Summary of Position Duties
This is a regular full time position in the Southern Nuclear (SNC), Nuclear Development, Vogtle 3&4, Construction Engineering organization. Southern Nuclear has entered into an EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contract with a Westinghouse / Shaw Consortium for two AP1000 nuclear power plant units being constructed as Units 3 and 4 of the Vogtle Electric Generating Station near Waynesboro, Georgia. Unit 3 has a 2016 commercial operating date and Unit 4 has a 2017 commercial operating date. As a member of the SNC Nuclear Development - Construction Engineering team, the successful candidate will be responsible for oversight of Consortium engineering activities that directly support plant construction.
Position duties will include but are not limited to the following:
The review of field change requests, design changes and non-conformances to ensure construction related changes are consistent with design basis, licensing basis, code, regulatory and contract requirements.
Address welding and material related technical issues as identified by Construction Oversight, Licensing or Vendor Oversight where design or licensing basis requirements could be impacted by construction activities.
Review of construction work packages, welder qualification programs and welding procedure qualifications to ensure they appropriately include engineering critical work steps that will provide code complainant results.
Participation in construction readiness reviews to ensure design and licensing basis requirements are met.
Provide oversight of the scope of work activities and deliverables performed by the on-site Westinghouse and Shaw engineering/construction organization.
Perform engineering reviews of licensing documents such as FSAR updates, ITAACs and Licensing Amendment Requests.
Participate in industry groups and serve as the Nuclear Development subject matter expert for welding and material related issues.
Job Experience and Education
A BS in Engineering (not Engineering Technology) or Metallurgy is required.
A BS degree in Welding Engineering is highly preferred.
A minimum of 2 years weld engineering experience is required.
A minimum of 3 years experience as an engineer supporting power or chemical plants in areas such as design, construction, modifications, maintenance or operations is preferred.
Welder and weld procedure qualification experience is preferred.
Experience in the preparing nuclear plant repair/replacement is preferred.
AWS certified welding inspector experience is preferred.
ASNT Level III in radiography is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Extensive knowledge of welding and welder qualification processes is required.
Detailed knowledge of nuclear power plant codes and standards (e.g. ASME B&PV Code Section III and Section XI, AWS D1.1 and ANS B31.1) is preferred.
