At MSU, the only top-tier research university in a four-state region, music plays a very special role in the lives of both our students and our faculty. Our music, music education, and music technology degrees offer great choices for music majors, and our fifteen performing ensembles and a wide array of courses provide opportunities for majors, minors and non-majors. With 15 full-time and 15 part-time faculty members and 170 music majors, we host 100 concerts per year in Reynolds Recital Hall. Many engineering, science, business, humanities, education and fine arts majors find their musical home here in the School of Music.

Duties and

The successful candidate will teach applied trombone, euphonium and tuba, brass techniques, recruit outstanding low brass students, and teach other music courses as determined by the needs of the School of Music and the expertise of the candidate.


DMA or PhD in Music; or the Master of Music degree and a national/international reputation in low brass.

Successful studio teaching.

Demonstrated potential in research/creative activities.


Successful studio teaching at the college level.

Successful chamber music coaching.

Performance experience in significant venues as soloist and chamber musician.

Possess effective communication skills as a teacher and colleague; demonstrate an ability to recruit quality students; and demonstrate potential to advance the discipline.
