POSITION DETAILS: 1 Permanent Full-Time Supervisory Medical Records Administration Specialist position for the San Carlos Service Unit, Health Information Management Department.
Supervisory/Managerial Position: Yes, You may be required to serve a one year probationary period.
Relocation Expenses Paid: Not Paid: travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the responsibility of the employee.

Plan and manage the development and maintenance of a medical records program to meet statutory and regulatory requirements.
Advise management and staff on medical records procedures and problems and provide solutions to the problems.
Advise in the design, development, and evaluation of automated systems to meet the changing technological needs for information required to manage resources.
Apply legal principles, policies, regulations, and standards for the control and use of medical records information.
Serve on various hospital committees whose policies may impact directly on the medical records program and contribute to decisions that establish hospital policies for medical records management.
Review and analyze information reported into data systems and provide recommendations for more efficient use of resources to medical center management.
Serve as the Privacy Act Liaison and Freedom of Information Act Coordinator for the service unit.
Responsible for compliance with all Federal Statutes and regulations requiring and affecting confidentiality of medical information.

All applicants must meet the qualification requirements of this position for each grade level:
GS-09: Applicants who meet at least one of the following requirements may qualify for positions at this grade level:
1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level planning, developing, and directing a medical records program for a health care facility, designing information systems to collect, analyze, monitor, report, and maintain privacy and confidentiality of patient data, and evaluating and implementing changes to assure the reliability of data; OR
Masters or equivalent graduate degree; OR
Completion of 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B, if related. Such education must be related to a medical records administration educational program; OR
A combination of graduate level education and specialized experience described above.
GS-11 : Applicants who meet at least one of the following requirements may qualify for positions at this grade level:
1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level directing and supervising a medical records staff in various functional areas of a medical records department, develop and implement policies and procedures for processing medical and insurance documents and correspondence requests in accordance with Federal, State and local statutes and deal with diverse technical and administrative problems and concerns; OR
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. Such education must be related to a medical records administration educational program; OR
A combination of graduate level education and specialized experience described above.
