Description

The Energy, Transportation and Industrial Credit Department within Cargill has offices in Geneva, Singapore, Minneapolis and Dallas. The team provides credit analysis and risk management support to the following Business Units that operate with a global mandate: Petroleum, Power, Coal, Natural Gas, Emissions, Ferrous, ERMS, and Ocean Transportation. The credit team acts as a member of the customer deal team providing underwriting support to the trading decisions. The team's responsibilities cover financial statement analysis, deal structuring, contracts negotiations, margining, customers credit due diligence, credit limit setting, ongoing exposure and credit monitoring, and portfolio reporting.

In this position you will manage the credit risk of a designated portfolio and/or commodity trading desk interacting with external and internal worldwide customers including counterparties, traders, marketing, legal, contract administration, operations, and BUSINESS UNIT leadership team members in order to underwrite and approve credit limit requests.

You will also be responsible for negotiating and structuring credit terms to mitigate risk while providing effective credit solutions. Providing guidance and support of highly complex deal structures as well as identifying/tracking high risk/watch list accounts requires rigorous analysis and succinct communication of customer financial position, business prospects, sector outlook, and commodity values underlying the transaction. In addition, you will also work closely with the Shared Services credit analysis team, other global Credit Relationship tags, and the Credit Risk Regional Lead to apply sound credit decisions and structures to avoid potential losses.

Principal Responsibilities:
80% Portfolio analysis and monitoring:
Relationship Management, Decision Making & Problem Solving as it relates to managing the portfolio’s credit risk on new and existing counterparties by; Underwriting assigned portfolio, financial statement analysis, making recommendations on limits exceeding authority or within individual signing authority. Provide timely response to request and informative updates/solutions acting as a liaison with Counterparty, Commercial Management, and Credit Risk Regional Lead.

Pro-actively manage a designated energy portfolio, including, but not limited to: credit risk underwriting pertaining to existing and new counterparty credit limits; credit risk management and reporting both at the asset and portfolio levels (including identification and management of high-risk/watchlist counterparties); deal structuring; contract negotiation; stress testing and adherence to internal Credit Policy and Procedures

Perform detailed and concise credit risk analyses of existing and potential counterparties within the designated portfolio:

Analyze income statements, cash flow, and balance sheets of counterparties

Conduct reviews and analysis of the industry sector in which the counterparty operates

Interact with other members of the customer deal team (internal/external) in obtaining credit information, determining solutions that meet customer needs, communicating credit decisions and negotiation of credit structure (including contract negotiation)

Monitor daily exposure and report any over-limits to their ETM Credit Manager

Propose and discuss adequate credit support with their ETM Credit Manager in order to reduce Cargill's exposure with customer in over-limits

Identify and track high-risk/watchlist accounts and develop strategies with their ETM Credit Manager in order to avoid potential credit losses.

Actively lead the planning,infrastructure and strategic thinking around the designated portfolio

Apply prudent and pragmatic credit decisions and adequate on-going monitoring to anticipate and mitigate credit losses. Ensure that exposures stay within approved limits, and react promptly to any instances of limit and policy breaches

Proactively identify, communicate and escalate credit issues and ensure necessary remedies are taken

Provide guidance and support for other credit/business processes when necessary (e.g. analysis of highly complex deals/structures, verification of accurate daily margin calculations, portfolio stressing & reporting)

Develop and maintain good relations with the Business Units Leader and business partners of the portfolio managed, and develop and maintain very good relations with the Desk Heads and Senior Traders of the portfolio managed

Work closely with documentation team/legal/TRADE AND STRUCTURED FINANCE and propose and develop risk mitigation tools and solutions for highly complex deals/structures.

Collaborate effectively and proactively with the team, commercial teams, management, functions, colleagues and peers.

10% Participate in ETM Credit Team initiatives:
Participate actively in special projects that may arise within ETM Credit, ETM Business Units or the ETM Platform.

Coach and mentor the junior members working on the project, particularly in respect the transfer of technical knowledge and experience

10% Compliance and reporting:
Maintain accurate customer credit files (soft & hard copy)

Qualifications

Required:
Bachelors Degree in Business/Economics/Financial/Accounting

Minimum of 5 years experience in commercial credit analysis / financial statement analysis / an industry sector analysis / a financial institution determining counterparty credit risk and setting credit limits within the trading/capital markets

Excellent written and spoken English

Advanced knowledge of Excel

Preferred:
MBA or CFA

Knowledge of the Energy Industry and Markets
