The Nurse Practitioner provides nursing and medical services to neonates, families and/or groups, with emphasis on acute disease management. This individual augments a physician's ability to provide medical services to patients; collects and documents data, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory tests, radiology studies and professional consultations. The Nurse Practitioner provides direct patient care services, participates as a team member in the provision of health and medical care, and interfaces with professional colleagues to provide comprehensive care. Neonatal nurse practitioners are members of the health delivery team, practicing autonomously in areas where neonatal care is delivered.
