Under direction of Computing Resource Manager and Lead Systems Administrator assist in managing the computing needs of the department, including planning and implementing long-term technical goals, and represent the department in communications with campus IET and outside departments. Provide assistance in maintaining Windows and Linux servers, network infrastructure, disaster recovery infrastructure, and system/network security; and maintaining documentation with department network and server configurations.

Provide tier 2 desktop support for departmental users with hardware and software including campus business and administrative applications (PPS, DaFIS, and Banner); and recommend technical solutions for departmental users. Train departmental users in the use of hardware and software.

Purchase, setup, and maintain computers and peripheral devices for departmental users.

Physical Demands:
Manipulate and move large pieces of equipment (up to 75 lbs) and furniture to access NAMS and electrical outlets.

Work Environment:
Work occasional flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays for system emergencies and maintenance.

Valid California Driver's license to transport materials and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:
Experience in Windows and linux Systems Administration.

Knowledge and experience with server hardware including Dell PowerEdge a Powervault systems. Experience with Windows and Linux Server Operating Systems.

Experience with enterprise server applications such as MS Exchange, MS SQL, IIS, MS Systems Center suite, Windows clustering, Active Directory, Tivoli Endpoint Management and centralized anti-virus.

Experience designing and supporting secure systems and networks through physical and technical security techniques, risk assessment, business continuity planning, and effective policy and procedure development and implementation.

Knowledge and experience with network hardware and software including firewalls, secure remote access technologies, switches, cabling, and wireless technologies.

Knowledge and experience with disaster recovery hardware and software including tape libraries, disk to disk backup systems, backup software, and system backup methodologies.

Knowledge and experience writing scripts and programs for various purposes including automating system maintenance and configuration of systems.

Knowledge and skills to develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and guidelines for manual and automatic backup of system data and programs.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with SAN, NAS, and other storage technologies.

Ability to teach non-technical personnel, respond to questions in layman's terms and to interpret technical information.

Skills to analyze complex data and develop solutions to specific problems, and gather related information from diverse sources to identify problems.

Knowledge to install, maintain, secure, and troubleshoot various flavors of Linux.
