The primary purpose of the position is to pick-up and deliver mail, supplies, and various office materials by use of a government issued motor vehicle, van and/or automobile. The incumbent operates a government issued vehicle to transport personnel, supplies and materials over Federal, state and city streets in all traffic and weather conditions. Loads and unloads vehicle. Incumbent picks-up and delivers mail between HOBA II and the entire Capitol Hill complex. Wraps and mails packages, and delivers messages, documents, drawings, and packages for the Architect of the Capitol and Staff. Handles mass mailings and may at the supervisor's request assist with mass mailings for HOBA II. Incumbent will walk to hand deliver items within assigned buildings. Performs general mail handling and distribution including sorting, opening, date stamping, classifying, processing, and routing mail. Records, processes, and controls registered, insured, priority, reply, or certified mail. Performs a variety of copy center or print shop assignments involving different and unrelated tasks, processes, or methods, requiring the selection of steps and the order of their performance. Prepares, runs, assembles, distributes, and assigns priorities to a variety of photocopying, duplicating, and binding assignments, including rush jobs and last minute revisions, in an environment that typically has a very heavy workload. Follows applicable safety rules in the performance of duties. Attends safety classes to reinforce the awareness in safety. Required to make minor emergency repairs, such as changing tires, checking and adding oil to vehicle. Reports problems that require garage service to supervisor.
Processes incoming or outgoing mail, including specialty mail such as airmail, special delivery, registered, and foreign mail.
Incumbent sets up, operates, adjusts, and monitors the operation of single or multiple function equipment such as copiers, duplicators, mail processing machines, etc. Performs equipment maintenance tasks such as lubricating moving parts, checking and replenishing levels of ink, developer, and toner.
