The University of Texas – Pan American ( UTPA ) Department of Biology seeks to fill a tenure track, Assistant Professor Faculty position beginning fall 2014 in Invertebrate Biology (Job Vacancy F13/14-002), pending budget approval. A PhD in a relevant field is required; postdoctoral experience is preferred. The area of research is open to many areas of Invertebrate Biology but we are especially interested in research with an emphasis in marine invertebrates. The position provides opportunities for the successful candidate to develop their own research program, teach advanced courses, and participate in the mentoring of master’s students. The successful candidate will teach both undergraduate and graduate courses, including Invertebrate Zoology, Freshman Biology, and courses in their area of interest/expertise; conduct externally-funded research; and participate in departmental service activities. The Biology Department at UTPA welcomes new research activities, research collaborations among its faculty, and is committed to quality research and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. UTPA is located in a region of unusual biological diversity and interest, the subtropical Rio Grande Valley, and is near both the Laguna Madre, one of the world’s few hypersaline lagoons, and the Gulf of Mexico. UTPA also maintains the Coastal Studies Lab, a research and teaching facility located on South Padre Island that would be of particular use for a program involving marine research. UTPA is the tenth largest university in Texas with undergraduate enrollment over 19,000 students and is developing initiatives to become the premier research institution in South Texas.
