Position responsible for managing all media relations and communications efforts, develop educational programming, organize and coordinate special events and establish initiatives to solicit funding in accordance with the mission, goals and vision of the division.
Manages a wide range of communication activities to increase media awareness of the division and its services and programs.
Responsible for identifying all public relations opportunities.
Acts as division spokesperson to ensure public trust for all issues including, but not limited to, highly sensitive and/or complex matters.
Maintains contacts with the news media to assure accuracy of information disseminated and identify and correct reporting errors, and act as the media liaison.
Writes and issues all media releases for the division to ensure effective public relations.
Coordinates the preparation and dissemination of news releases regarding division events, services and regulations, coordinate media conferences, and arrange media coverage for special events.
Utilizes and supervises all activities related to the City's video production services and the City/County Government Access Channels.
Meets with public officials, media representatives and the general public as an Indianapolis Animal Care & Control representative providing information on the division's mission, goals, visions, and services offered.
Directs, plans, and implements marketing strategies aimed at promoting the division and increasing community awareness.
Develops and designs all advertising materials, mailings, posters, flyers, newsletters, brochures and other promotional material and/or coordinate work with local vendors for the production of material(s) needed.
Oversees the division website and make changes as appropriate in accordance with the division's mission and goals.
Selects, designs, and orders promotional items to promote the division, its programs and special events.
Makes presentations to, and interact with, individuals and groups to exchange information, solicit input and determine community needs.
Plans, administers, and implements a wide variety of education or specialty programs designed to meet the needs of the Indianapolis community.
Plans, develops, coordinates, and implements special events including open houses, special event days both in-shelter and offsite, and service fairs from inception to completion.
Solicits sponsors, speakers, performers, and/or volunteers for the special events.
Develops fundraising strategies and oversees all aspects of the fundraising program.

Bachelor's degree required. The candidate must have successful experience in media relations and communications, event coordination and community building for either a government entity, not-for-profit organization or charitable cause. The candidate must have demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, pay attention to details and handle a variety of responsibilities efficiently and effectively, must be self-motivated, have the ability to work independently, possess leadership skills and the ability to motivate others. Experience with Microsoft applications is required. The incumbent must possess a valid Indiana driver's license with a good driving record, and must be a resident citizen of the United States or have the right to work in the United States.
Independent judgment is essential for this position to prioritize multiple assignments and activities. Errors in actions or judgment could have a significant impact on the Department of Public Safety and the citizens of Indianapolis.
