Work Days And Hours:

Position Summary:
The Director of Special Projects will work closely with the College of Medicine's Vice Dean for Research and Graduate Programs in the development, coordination and reporting of strategic research initiatives. In conjunction with the Vice Dean, will also develop a competitive grant acquisition strategy. Administers, researches, identifies, develops, writes and submits proposals to funding agencies. Works closely with the Vice Dean for Research and Graduate Programs in preparation of data submissions and required reporting to College, State, Federal and private funding agencies. Directs pre and post award project management and compliance with state and federal funding agencies. Develops and prepares College research, development and donor reports. Directs marketing and communication efforts related to research activities. Works closely with the Director of Development and the Director of Communications in the coordination of strategic events as assigned by the Vice Dean. Directs, develops and maintains the research and project management content of the College website. Coordinates activities that include pre- (e.g., grant development and submission) and post-award (e.g., project administration and report preparation) support for the Vice Dean's research program. Administers targeted grant activities for the Senior Associate Dean for Geriatric Programs: pre- (e.g., grant development and submission) and post-award (e.g., project administration and report preparation) support. Directs special projects including, but not limited to, the development and implementation of strategic plans and the collection and assembly of data for ongoing provisional and full accreditation efforts leading to the successful accreditation of the medical education program. At the direction of the Vice Dean, provides supervision of project staff and assists in the preparation of assignments and performance appraisals. Serves as liaison to the FAU Division of Research, funding agencies and scientific centers. Develops programs, policies and procedures related to research activities. Perform other related duties and carries out other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualification:
A Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience; or a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and eight years of appropriate experience. Experience in a college of medicine or academic health center is preferred. Experience in the management of grants: identification of funding, reporting, compliance, development and submission of applications related to academic research is required. Experience in strategic project management, finance, marketing, tech transfer, communications, financial reporting (particularly with the development of project budgeting), journal submission, policy development, supervision, performance management and interviewing is strongly preferred. Ability to collaborate and work successfully with multiple constituents to deliver and improve programs and initiatives; and, exceptional time management, analytical and communication skills (verbal and written) are required. The ability to work under considerable pressure, to adjust to constant change and manage multiple relationships and priorities are required. A high level of professionalism and dependability are also required. Knowledge of office computer systems including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
